Recently, Ford has trademarked the name Mustang Mach E in India. The move comes amidst buzz about Ford re-entry into the Indian market. The Mustang Mach-e is an electric crossover version of the iconic Mustang and was initially introduced in the USA in 2020. Ford’s sudden exit from Indian manufacturing in 2021 aimed to maintain a presence through imported offerings like the Mustang Mach-e.
Mustang Mach-e Overview
The Mustang Mach-e is an electric SUV with two battery pack options and a choice between rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD). It offers a modern cabin with a 15.5-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, advanced driver assists, panoramic glass roof, premium sound system, and front and rear luggage compartments.
Mustang Mach-E Specs
Internationally, the Mustang Mach-E is offered in various variants, with the GT version featuring a large 98.8kWh battery pack, all-wheel drive, and a range of 350-380km. Internationally, the Mustang Mach-E is available in various configurations, featuring RWD or AWD, standard and extended-range variants, and a range of up to 600km. The CBU route is anticipated for its entry into India, making it an expensive option, possibly exceeding Rs 1 crore.
The Mustang Mach-E’s introduction as a CBU (Completely Built-Up) import is expected under an import rule allowing up to 2,500 units without homologation. However, given its potential high cost, it could face challenges, likely above Rs 1 crore.
Ford’s Re-entry: New-Gen Endeavour and Mustang Mach-E
Reports indicate Ford’s re-entry into the Indian market in 2025, with the new-gen Endeavour expected to be the first offering. Ford has filed a trademark for the all-electric Mustang Mach-E in India, adding to speculation about its comeback.
Ford’s recent trademark filing and job openings hint at its re-entry into the Indian market. The Mustang Mach-E could join the lineup as Ford explores a comeback strategy.
Mustang Mach E Competitors
If launched, the Mustang Mach-E would compete with luxury EVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQE, BMW iX, and Audi Q8 e-tron in the Indian market.
