Kia Carens Clavis EV Teased – 490 Km Range, 7 Seats & Big Launch on July 15!

Kia India has teased its upcoming Kia Carens Clavis EV, the electric iteration of the brand’s three-row MPV, ahead of its official launch on July 15, 2025. The vehicle, which shares much of its design language with the ICE-powered Carens Clavis, will be the brand’s first locally produced EV and a significant addition to India’s growing electric vehicle portfolio.

The teaser images reveal a design largely similar to the ICE version, including the tri-pod LED headlamps, pixel-style fog lamps, and a familiar silhouette. Key EV-specific updates include:

  • Blanked-off front grille with a charging flap
  • Aerodynamic alloy wheels
  • Connected LED taillights
  • Mild revisions to front and rear bumpers

These updates serve both aesthetic and functional purposes, aiming to optimize the EV’s efficiency without straying far from the ICE model’s proven design.

Interior

Inside, the Carens Clavis EV retains the same seven-seat layout as the ICE version. A new black and white interior theme has been introduced, with slight design changes such as a revised centre console and gear selector deletion, freeing up space for storage. Captain seats and a six-seat version may also be offered.

Notable features expected include:

  • Dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and driver information
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Two-spoke steering wheel
  • Ambient lighting and premium materials in top trims

Battery, Range & Performance

Kia has confirmed that the Carens Clavis EV will offer a claimed range of up to 490 km (MIDC). Though the battery specifications are yet to be officially announced, reports suggest two pack options could be offered:

  • 42 kWh battery pack with an estimated 390 km range
  • 51.4 kWh battery pack with the 490 km claimed range

The electric motor is expected to be mounted on the front axle, similar to what is found in the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, with power figures around 135–145 PS and torque around 250–300 Nm, depending on the variant.

Safety & Technology

The Carens Clavis EV is likely to carry over several features from its ICE sibling while incorporating new safety tech:

  • Six airbags
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • 360-degree camera
  • Hill-start assist
  • All-wheel disc brakes
  • ISOFIX anchorages
  • Level 2 ADAS suite (expected in higher variants)

ADAS features may include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and blind spot monitoring.

Expected Price & Rivals

Kia is expected to price the Carens Clavis EV from around ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom), with higher variants going well beyond that based on features and battery size. While it doesn’t have a direct rival yet, it will serve as a premium alternative to compact electric SUVs, and go up against:

  • Hyundai Creta EV
  • MG ZS EV
  • Tata Curvv EV
  • Maruti eVX/e-Vitara
  • Mahindra BE.6

Launch & Availability

The official launch is scheduled for July 15, 2025, with deliveries likely to begin later in the year. It will be the first electric MPV in its segment with a three-row layout and could appeal to families and fleet buyers alike looking for an EV with seating flexibility and premium features.
