Citroen C3 Now Available in CNG!

Citroën India has officially rolled out a certified CNG retrofitment program for its C3 hatchback, providing customers a more economical and eco-friendly fuel option. This initiative allows existing and new C3 owners to opt for a dealership-fitted CNG kit compatible with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol variants.

The retrofitment is available across four trims of the C3 — Live, Feel, Feel(O), and Shine — all powered by the 1.2-litre NA petrol engine. It is not compatible with the turbocharged versions. The CNG kit has been developed in collaboration with Lovato and comes integrated with a dual-fuel setup that allows seamless switching between petrol and CNG modes.

Performance and Efficiency

While power output figures in CNG mode haven’t been officially disclosed, the engine continues to produce 82 hp and 115 N · m in petrol mode. Citroën claims an ARAI-certified mileage of 28.1 km/kg on CNG, translating to a low running cost of just ₹2.66 per kilometre. A full tank offers a real-world range of approximately 170–200 km.

Design and Installation

The CNG kit installation has been engineered to preserve practicality. Unlike many aftermarket installations, this dealer-level retrofit does not compromise boot space or restrict access to the spare wheel. The CNG nozzle is smartly integrated within the petrol filler cap for added convenience during refueling.

Suspension and Safety Upgrades

To account for the additional weight of the CNG tank (55-litre water equivalent), Citroën has reinforced the rear suspension with upgraded dampers, coil springs, and an anti-roll bar. This ensures the ride comfort and handling remain consistent with the petrol-only variants.

Every CNG-equipped C3 undergoes a rigorous pre-delivery inspection, including checks for cylinder integrity, leak detection, and safe fuel switching — all in line with Citroën’s internal safety protocols.

Warranty and Pricing

The CNG retrofitment is priced at ₹93,000 over the standard petrol variant and is available exclusively at authorised Citroën dealerships. The retrofit is also covered under Citroën’s standard 3-year/1,00,000 km warranty, including specific coverage for CNG components.

With prices for the C3 CNG starting at ₹7.16 lakh and going up to ₹9.24 lakh (ex-showroom), Citroën’s certified program presents a compelling alternative for budget-conscious drivers and fleet operators looking to reduce fuel expenses without compromising on brand-backed reliability or comfort.

Wrap Up

As India’s CNG infrastructure rapidly expands — expected to cross 7,400 stations by FY2025 — Citroën’s timely introduction of a certified retrofitment for the C3 gives it an edge in the affordable mobility space. With factory-backed assurance, intelligent integration, and minimal compromise on space or comfort, the C3 CNG looks like a well-rounded dual-fuel option for urban commuters and fleet buyers.
