Citroen, a subsidiary of the Stellantis group, which also owns brands like Jeep and Maserati in India, entered the Indian market in 2021 with the launch of the C5 Aircross, a premium five-seater midsize SUV. Initially offered as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) model, the C5 is assembled at Citroen’s factory in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. In September 2022, the C5 Aircross received a facelift with notable updates inside and out. To appeal to the mass market, Citroen introduced the C3 hatchback in mid-2022, targeting the sub-10 lakh price segment. The C3 is highly localized, with nearly 95% of its parts sourced from within India. The brand’s La Maison Citroen dealerships are expanding, and Citroen’s next big move in India will be the launch of an electric version of the C3 hatchback.
Founded in 1919 by André Gustave Citroen, the French automobile manufacturer has been part of the PSA Peugeot Citroen group since 1976. Citroen also has a motorsport division, Citroen Racing. In 2020, Citroen entered India with the C5 Aircross, launched in collaboration with the CK Birla Group. The brand’s factory is located in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and it plans to launch all-electric vehicles in India by 2025, with high localization levels.
