Tesla’s Model Y has been spotted testing in India again after its recent spy shots were leaked in the first week of June. Although Tesla has not confirmed an official launch date, the Model Y’s appearance on Indian roads—undisguised and wearing ‘KA’ trade plates.

Design
On the front, it features sleek LED DRLs connected by a full-width light bar, a sealed grille-less front fascia, and air dam inserts to aid cooling. The side profile gets flush door handles and sharply designed ORVMs, while the rear sports LED connecting taillights, a chunky skid plate, and aerodynamic bumper styling.
Cabin Experience
While the Indian test mule didn’t reveal the interior, the global-spec Model Y gives us a strong hint of what to expect. The cabin will likely feature a 15.4-inch landscape touchscreen that controls nearly all vehicle functions, paired with an 8-inch display for rear passengers.
The cabin is expected to offer:
- A full-length panoramic glass roof
- Ventilated front seats with memory function
- Ambient lighting
- Wireless chargers for both front and rear passengers
- Fabric upholstery in new colour themes
- Fragrance dispenser (feature seen on international variants)
The interior continues Tesla’s minimalist design philosophy with high-end materials and tech-focused amenities.
The most notable highlight is the inclusion of Autopilot and ADAS capabilities, offering features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane centering, and semi-autonomous driving, depending on the variant.

Powertrain
Two wheel designs are expected – 19-inch and 20-inch alloys, although the test car was seen without the aero covers seen on production variants abroad.
The Model Y will likely arrive in RWD and AWD Long Range configurations. Though exact battery specs for India remain unconfirmed, global variants offer:
Variant | Drivetrain | 0–100 kmph | Range (WLTP) |
---|---|---|---|
Standard | RWD | 5.9 seconds | ~500 km |
Long Range | AWD | 4.3 seconds | ~719 km |
Exterior Colours (Expected)
- Pearl White Multi-Coat
- Solid Black
- Deep Blue Metallic
- Midnight Silver Metallic
- Red Multi-Coat
These shades are designed to accentuate the Model Y’s fluid design language and modern stance.
Rivals
The Model Y is expected to be Tesla’s first official offering in India. Its launch will directly compete with premium EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volvo XC40/C40 Recharge, BYD Sealion 7, and Kia EV6. Tesla’s entry could reshape the Indian EV landscape, especially in the premium segment.
