S Smart Trim

Based on the ‘S’ variant, the S Smart is now the most affordable Exter variant to feature an electric sunroof—a feature earlier available only from the S+ trim. It also offers:

  • LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs)
  • LED tail lamps
  • Rear AC vents
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • 15-inch steel wheels

SX Smart Trim

The SX Smart builds on the SX variant and adds more convenience-oriented features:

  • Keyless entry with push-button start/stop
  • Projector headlamps
  • Rear parking camera
  • Shark fin antenna
  • Single-pane sunroof

Optional Equipment

Hyundai also offers a 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, available as a genuine accessory for ₹14,999. It also includes a rear camera and comes with a 3-year warranty. This option adds a premium tech feel without significantly raising the variant cost.

Engine Specifications

The Exter continues to be powered by a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 83 PS and 114 Nm of torque. The petrol variants offer both 5-speed manual and AMT gearboxes.

In CNG guise, the same engine puts out 69 PS and 95.2 Nm, mated only to a 5-speed manual transmission. Hyundai’s new dual-cylinder CNG tank layout also enhances boot space.

Positioning and Competition

With these updates, the Exter caters to a broader range of buyers looking for sunroof-equipped, tech-packed SUVs on a budget. The new trims undercut existing variants while delivering popular features, helping Exter compete more aggressively with rivals like the Tata Punch and Maruti Ignis in the compact SUV space.

The Exter range now starts at ₹6 lakh and goes up to ₹9.25 lakh (ex-showroom),
