But March 2025 changed the game.

Best Selling SUV March 2025

In a twist no one saw coming, an SUV not from Tata or Maruti climbed to the top and left everyone else in its rear-view mirror. And no, it wasn’t a close fight. The winner surged ahead with a confident lead.

The Sales Numbers Are In – And the Winner Is…

Here’s a look at the top 5 selling SUVs in India for March 2025:

RankModelMarch ’25 Sales
1 Hyundai Creta18,059 units
2Tata Punch17,714 units
3 Maruti Suzuki Brezza16,546 units
4️Tata Nexon16,366 units
5Mahindra Scorpio13,913 units

How the Hyundai Creta Took the Lead

Several factors contributed to the Hyundai Creta’s success. First, its 2025 facelift has received positive reviews. The refreshed design appeals to a wide range of buyers who are seeking modern aesthetics and a premium look.

In addition, the Creta is packed with features including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and a fully digital instrument cluster. These features make it a compelling value proposition.

Hyundai also timed its market strategy well. As demand rises for technologically advanced yet reasonably priced SUVs, the Creta managed to stand out by delivering a balanced package.

As a result, it recorded a 10 percent year-on-year growth, which pushed it ahead of Tata Punch and Maruti Suzuki Brezza in total volume.

Performance of Other Leading SUVs

While Tata Punch remains extremely popular, it posted only a modest one percent growth. Maruti Suzuki Brezza achieved a strong 13 percent growth, but fell short of overtaking the Creta. Tata Nexon grew by an even higher 16 percent year-on-year, yet it remained in fourth place.

Mahindra Scorpio was the only SUV in the top five to see a decline, with sales falling by eight percent compared to March of the previous year.

What This Means for the Market

Tata and Maruti continue to be strong contenders in the SUV segment, and they are likely to respond quickly in the upcoming months. However, sales numbers of Hyundai Creta in March 2025 demonstrate that no brand holds a permanent lead in this highly competitive space.

This month’s numbers send a clear message. Hyundai Creta has not only reclaimed its relevance, but it has also redefined what consumers expect from a modern SUV in India.

As the competition intensifies, the automotive market can expect further surprises in the months ahead.
