Czech startup MW Motors has taken a significant step in sustainable off-roading by transforming the Force Gurkha into an all-electric SUV. Named the Spartan 2.0, this vehicle combines the rugged appeal of the original Gurkha with advanced electric vehicle technology, setting a new standard in the EV segment.
The Spartan 2.0 maintains the Force Gurkha’s basic design but introduces minor modifications, such as a new front grille with the ‘MW’ logo, redesigned alloy wheels, and removing the exhaust pipe.
It measures 4,116mm in length and 1,812mm in width, making it smaller than typical off-roaders but more significant than the Jimny, enhancing maneuverability.
Off-Road Capabilities: The vehicle boasts impressive approach (38 degrees), departure (35 degrees), and break over angles (25 degrees), suitable for challenging terrains.
Electric Powertrain
Performance: The Spartan 2.0 is powered by a single electric motor, delivering 176HP and a remarkable 1075Nm of torque.
Drive System: It offers a manually selectable two- or four-wheel drive with high and low ranges, manually locking differentials, and hill descent control.
Battery and Range: Equipped with a 57.4kWh battery, it provides a range of approximately 240km. The battery supports fast charging, allowing a 20-80% charge in just over half an hour.
Interior and Features
Cabin Design: The interior largely mirrors the Force Gurkha, featuring hard-wearing materials and essential modern amenities like adjustable seats, electric windows, air conditioning, and a digital dashboard.
Technology: The Spartan 2.0 includes a digital instrument display, an infotainment touchscreen, and a bi-directional charging capability for powering external tools and equipment.
Utility and Commercial Use
Seating and Cargo: In some European markets and the UK, the Spartan 2.0 is sold as a commercial vehicle without rear seats, offering a two-seat layout with an extensive cargo bay.
Load and Towing Capacity: It has a curb weight of 2,350kg, with load and towing capacities of 1,025kg and 3,000kg, respectively.
Sustainable Off-Roading Vision
The Spartan 2.0 represents a bold leap towards eco-friendly off-roading, showcasing the potential for electrification in this segment. While there is no confirmation of its launch in India, it is a rugged, old-school rival to potential electric versions of popular SUVs like the Thar.
