Citroen Reveals 2025 C5 Aircross with Mild-Hybrid, PHEV and EV Variants

Citroen has officially unveiled the second-generation C5 Aircross, marking a significant shift in its powertrain strategy. The new iteration arrives with only electrified options, including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric variants. Built on Stellantis’ STLA Medium architecture, the 2025 C5 Aircross has grown in both size and features, with a clear focus on passenger comfort, especially in the rear cabin.

The design of the new C5 Aircross remains faithful to the concept showcased in late 2024. The front fascia features sharp yet rounded surfaces, slim LED matrix headlamps, and a three-piece C-shaped DRL signature. A two-tone bumper and blanked-off grille (specific to the electric variant) enhance the futuristic aesthetic. The SUV measures 4,652mm in length, making it 150mm longer than its predecessor. Most notably, the wheelbase has increased by 600mm, directly benefitting rear legroom.

Along the profile, regular pull-type door handles replace the concept’s flush units. The sculpted wheel arches feature pronounced cladding, while the 20-inch alloys now sport a more production-ready design. The D-pillar detailing gives the illusion of a floating roof. At the rear, 3D-effect C-shaped tail-lamps and a gloss-matte finished bumper complete the look.

Interior

Inside, the C5 Aircross introduces a completely redesigned cabin focused on spaciousness and technology. The dashboard is inspired by living room furniture, with padded fabric inserts and a new waterfall-style portrait-oriented touchscreen taking center stage. This infotainment screen supports programmable widgets, fixed status bars, and direct climate access, while some physical buttons remain below the screen and on the center console.

The cabin also features a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15W wireless charging pad, and an optional larger head-up display. New ambient lighting offers eight color choices, and the vehicle supports wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and voice control via the “Hello Citroen” system. Integration with ChatGPT allows for conversational assistance.

Citroen has branded the rear seating area as the “C-Zen Lounge,” where the extended wheelbase translates to 51mm more legroom and 68mm more headroom. The rear seat backrests can recline between 21 and 33 degrees. Additional features include cupholders, USB-C ports, and a sofa-inspired seat design. The front seats, under the “Advanced Comfort” program, feature enhanced bolstering and shoulder wrap-around padding.

Powertrain Options: All Electrified

The 2025 C5 Aircross offers three powertrain configurations:

  • Mild Hybrid: A 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 134–136hp, paired with a 12hp (9kW) electric motor and a 0.9kWh battery. This setup is integrated into a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and operates on a 48V architecture, delivering a WLTP-certified range of up to 950km.
  • Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV): Combines a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a 125hp (92kW) electric motor, offering a total output of 195hp. It uses a 21kWh battery, enabling an all-electric range of up to 86km. This variant is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
  • All-Electric (e-C5 Aircross): Available in two configurations—one with a 213hp motor and a 73kWh battery (520km WLTP range), and another with a 233hp motor paired with a 97kWh battery (680km WLTP range). Both setups feature front-mounted motors and are designed for long-range efficiency.

Launch and Availability

The new Citroen C5 Aircross is scheduled for deliveries in Europe in the second half of 2025. It replaces the outgoing version as Citroen’s global flagship SUV. The previous-generation C5 Aircross continues to be sold in India in diesel-only CKD form, but it remains unclear when or if the new generation will arrive in the Indian market.
