Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga has achieved a significant milestone in India, surpassing 10 lakh units in domestic sales since its launch in 2012. This makes it the fastest MPV to reach this landmark. Currently, the Ertiga holds a dominant 37.5% market share in its segment. The MPV is offered in four variants – LXi (O), VXi (O), ZXi (O), and ZXi Plus, with prices starting at Rs. 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Ertiga quickly gained popularity post its 2012 launch, reaching one lakh unit sales within a year. By 2019, it had exceeded half a million unit sales, and now in 2024, it has crossed the 10 lakh sales mark. Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki, highlighted that the Ertiga has redefined the MPV concept, appealing to a tech-conscious, younger audience. It has become a lifestyle choice for families, with 66% of buyers considering it a pre-determined choice.
In terms of powertrains, the Ertiga has seen several iterations. The first generation (2012) offered a 1.4L petrol engine and a 1.3L diesel engine, along with a CNG option. In 2018, a generational update introduced a new 1.5L petrol engine. The diesel option phased out in 2020 due to emission norms, and in 2022, the Ertiga received a midlife update with a 6-speed torque converter for the petrol variant.
The Ertiga’s features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic AC, paddle shifters, and cruise control. Safety features include up to four airbags, ESP, hill-hold assist, rear parking camera with sensors. Priced between Rs. 8.69 lakh and Rs. 13.03 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Ertiga serves as both a premium alternative to the Renault Triber and an affordable alternative to the Kia Carens and Toyota Innova Crysta.
