Maruti Suzuki Takes Six Top Spots
The Maruti Dzire sold 18,084 units in May 2025, making it the best-selling car of the month. Sales grew 13% compared to May 2024, showing people still love this compact sedan.
The Ertiga came second with 16,140 units sold, up 16% from last year. Families clearly like this 7-seater for its space and fuel efficiency. The Brezza took third place with 15,566 units, growing 10% year-on-year.
But not all Maruti cars did well. The Swift dropped badly, selling only 14,135 units – down 27% from May 2024. The Baleno also fell 10% to 11,618 units. These drops show that buyers are moving away from small hatchbacks.
The Wagon R sold 13,949 units (down 4%) while the Fronx managed 13,584 units (up 7%). The Fronx’s growth shows people like the new crossover style.

Fight for Market Share
Hyundai’s Creta, once the king of compact SUVs, slipped to fourth place with 14,860 units. While it grew just 1% compared to last year, other SUVs are clearly catching up.
Tata had mixed results. The Punch sold 13,133 units but dropped 31% from last year – a big worry for the company. However, the Nexon bounced back with 13,096 units, growing 14% year-on-year.
Mahindra’s Scorpio took fifth place with 14,401 units, up 5% from May 2024. The Thar was the real star though, selling 10,389 units – an amazing 81% jump from last year. The new 5-door Thar clearly hit the right spot with buyers.
Some Interesting Numbers
Toyota’s Innova made it to the top 15 with 8,882 units, growing 4% year-on-year. This shows people still want reliable MPVs for their families.
The Maruti Eeco van sold 12,327 units, up 12% from last year. Small businesses and delivery companies keep buying these practical vehicles.
Some cars did really well. The Toyota Hyryder jumped 94% to 7,573 units, while the Mahindra XUV 700 climbed 28% to 6,435 units. People are clearly interested in new features and hybrid technology.
But others struggled. The Mahindra Grand Vitara dropped 47% to just 5,197 units, and the Hyundai Venue fell 19% to 7,520 units.
