Toyota entered the Indian market through Joint venture with Kirloskar group as Toyota Kirloskar Motors. Initially the group found success in its widely popular Qualis model. Owing to the success of MUV, it later launched Innova, which has been one of the most popular MUV in India.
Toyota currently offers 11 models in India – 1 in sedan category, 1 in hatchback category, 4 cars in SUV categroy, 4 cars in MUV category, 1 car in Pickup Truck category. The upcoming launches include Toyota Belta, Toyota Corolla Cross, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Toyota BZ4X.
Toyota later collaborated with Maruti Suzuki in India. Currently, Toyota is focusing on hybrid powertrain for India as it considers EV to be less practical than the hybrids.
