Renault Kwid EV – Dacia, the sister brand of Renault, has introduced the 2024 Spring EV, representing the second generation of this electric vehicle based on the Renault Kwid EV. The Spring EV has undergone a significant design overhaul and features an entirely new interior, showcasing notable improvements in equipment.
Exterior
Visually, the refreshed Spring EV exhibits a resemblance to the all-new Dacia Duster. The Spring EV retains its SUV-like appearance, resembling the Kwid available in India, with carried-over elements such as doors, fenders, and pull-type door handles. The front design includes slim, horizontal LED daytime running lamps merging into a gloss black grille with off-white inserts, a central Dacia logo, and main headlamps positioned on the bumper.
The grille incorporates a dedicated insert for the charging port, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. At the rear, the bumper receives mild design tweaks, and the tail-lamps feature new Y-shaped LED lighting elements, connected by a gloss black plastic panel on the tailgate.
Powertrain
The Spring EV maintains its previous mechanical configuration, powered by a single electric motor delivering either 45hp or 65hp to the front wheels. The 26.8kWh battery provides a claimed range of over 220km, and the 45hp variant supports a maximum charge of 11kW (AC), while the 65hp version comes with 30kW DC charging as standard.
Interior
Internally, the Spring EV boasts a revamped dashboard inspired by the Duster, steering wheel with integrated controls, and an infotainment screen. The cabin is designed for practicality, including accessory mounts on the center console and dashboard, along with an open shelf on the passenger side. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as lane-keeping assistance, advanced emergency braking, and a driver attention monitoring system are incorporated to comply with Europe’s safety regulations.
Renault Kwid EV India
Regarding its potential launch in India, Renault India MD Venkatram Mamillapalle expressed the company’s commitment to an entry-level EV. However, the timeline for the India launch remains uncertain. If introduced in India as the Renault Kwid EV, it would likely compete with models such as the MG Comet and Tata Tiago EV.
