Lexus is the luxury vehicle division of Toyota, founded in 1989 and headquartered in Nagoya, Japan. The brand entered the Indian market in 2017 with the introduction of the RX450h, LX450d, LX570, ES300, NX, and LS models.
Lexus was created following a 1983 meeting where Toyota Chairman Eiji Toyoda asked, “Can we create a luxury vehicle to challenge the world’s best?” This led to the development of the F1 project, which resulted in the Lexus LS 400. The goal of the project was to expand Toyota’s product line and enter the premium segment with a luxury vehicle that appealed to a broad customer base. The design and engineering of the LS 400 were inspired by the Toyota Supra and Cressida models. Toyota’s creation of Lexus followed the success of Honda’s Acura and the launch of other luxury divisions like Nissan’s Infiniti, with Lexus becoming a separate division under Toyota.
In India, Lexus operates seven dealerships in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Bangalore, Kochi, Chennai, and Chandigarh, offering models such as the ES, NX, RX, LS, LX, and LC 500h.
